What Is a Food Drive?

Show real photos or a short video about community food drives. Ask students to share if they’ve ever donated something.  Ask how it made them feel to give.

Needs vs. Wants Sort

Have students sort images or words into Needs (e.g., food, shelter, love) and Wants (e.g. toys, candy, electronics). Discuss why some families might need help getting basic needs.

Soundtrack of a Street

Students select or create music or sound effects that represent each time period in the story.

Act It Out

Have students act out scenes from the book using props or puppets, from mammoths to modern day.

Street Explorer Badge

Give out ‘Street Historian’ badges after students share what they learned about their own street or land.
