Visual Clues and Predictions

Show students several illustrations from the book (without reading the text). Ask them to predict what the story might be about. Who are the characters? What might be happening? What emotions are they feeling?

Interactive Resistance Timeline Wall

Students build a classroom timeline using printed images, QR code video links, quotes and summaries that connect moments in the book to WWII events. Visitors can walk through the story in visual form.

Memorials that Speak

Analyze modern memorials (i.e. for the White Rose, the Holocaust, Civil Rights). Students design their own tribute to Hans and Sophie.

Judging a Book by Its Cover

Analyze the title and cover illustration. Predict the genre and subject. Discuss: “Why might words matter in history?”

Draw the Word

Assign each student a vocabulary word from the book. They draw a picture that represents its meaning and present it to the class.
