Begin by reading the book aloud and having your child or student(s) react to the text and illustrations. Let them ask questions and makes comments without judgement, recognizing that there are no right or wrong ways to respond. Allow the story-poem to speak to them individually and their learning to happen organically.
For very young children, point out the cat in the illustrations and have them follow it through the images of the story.
