Picture Walk & Prediction

Conduct a picture walk through the book. Encourage students to look at illustrations and predict what the story might be about, focusing on clues like animals, clothing, homes and land changes.

Time Traveler’s Map

Ask students what they know about the history of their own neighbourhoods. On a large map, ask students to mark where their street is and hypothesize who might have lived there before. Discuss early settlers and Indigenous communities.

Digital Reflection: “My First, My Last” Video

Students record a short video or audio clip: “My last ____ was …” “My first ____ was …” They can hold a drawing or object while speaking. This can be done in class or at home with family participation.

Compare With Another Story

Read another story about moving or immigration Use a Venn diagram to compare: What changes? What stays the same? How do the characters feel?

Feelings Freeze Frame
