Parvana jokingly says that the only thing she would ever torture someone for is the answer to “Where is the key to the library?” (page 84). Talk with students about the novel’s theme of the importance of reading, and invite them to find other examples in the book that support the theme. Have them plan and create a multimedia campaign they could present to the school to encourage people to read and to not take literacy for granted.
