So much of food is about the sense of community it creates. Throw a soup party by asking each guest to bring an item that could go into a soup, then make the soup together. Some guests could wash and cut the vegetables, some could measure out the spices and some could stir it on the stove. To make it into a full meal, serve bread, crackers, cheese or other small dishes on the side. For dessert, you might make the apple crumble recipe in the back of the book.
This may not end up being the best soup you’ve ever tasted, but there is something special about creating something from everyone’s contributions.
